Meet our Stars
(Pre K – 2nd Grade; 30 minutes)
Students will see stars – literally – as they
use poetry, a fishing game, and live sea stars to learn about
sea stars and other members of the echinoderm family.
Seahorses, Sea Dragons, and Pipefish
– Oh My!
(Pre K – 2nd Grade; 30 minutes)
Explore the life of the seahorse through original song
and sensory experiences, including puppets, stuffed toys,
and specimens. Students will also create – and keep
– a diorama of a seahorse habitat that they can enjoy
throughout the school year.
Turtle Time
(Pre K – 2nd Grade; 30 minutes)
Can turtles leave their shells? This interactive program
answers that question and more through learning activities
and tactile experiences. Students hold a live turtle, work
with puppets, and write poems.
Invertebrate Investigation
(Pre K – 3rd Grade; 20 – 30 minutes)
Students will examine live invertebrates such as worms
and anemones from Long Island’s waters, as well as
compare invertebrates and humans. The program also involves
animal identification, and an exploration of animals’ interdependence with the environment.
Rainforest Reptiles
(Pre-K – 12th Grade; 20 – 60 minutes)
Students handle live animals and turtle shells, snakeskin,
and reptile skeletons to examine the amazing adaptations
that enable reptiles to live in rainforests.
Shark Surveillance
(Pre-K – 12th Grade [scaled appropriately to age/grade
level]; 20 – 60 minutes)
Students will deepen their fascination with the ocean’s
top predator by studying the biology, ecology, and conservation
of sharks. Students observe and handle shark jaws, teeth,
and egg cases, and learn little-known facts about these
extraordinary creatures.
Elly Jelly’s Adventures
(1st – 3rd Grade; 45 minutes)
Join Elly on her amazing undersea adventures! Stories,
puppets, and literacy-based activities help students
learn about the wonderful world of sea jellies.
The Seashore
(1st – 4th grade; 45 minutes)
The creatures living along our shores come in many different
colors and shapes, and this program gives students the chance
to meet some of these diverse characters.
Outwit, Outlast and Outplay…Survival
of the Fittest
(3rd – 4th Grade; 45 minutes)
Students utilize an interactive game to explore food web
principles, feeding hierarchies, and interdependent relationships,
discovering what it takes to become the food chain’s
top predator.
Animal Behaviors
(4th – 12th Grade; 30 minutes)
Students learn how conditioning techniques are used to
prepare marine mammals for public performances. Using these
same positive reinforcement techniques, students will then “train” one of their classmates with clickers
and whistles!
Coral Reef Ecology
(5th – 6th Grade; 45 minutes)
Did you know that Atlantis Marine World has the Western hemisphere’s
largest all-living Coral Reef display? Students will examine
various coral species and models of vibrant reef fish up
close to explore concepts of biodiversity, specialization,
symbiotic relationships, and environmental conservation/preservation.
