Seals

A visitor’s first encounter with the marine life at Atlantis Marine World occurs outside the main entrance, where playful harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) and a gray seal (Halichoerus grypus) frolic in an 800-square foot natural rockscape pool.

A particularly noteworthy resident is Gray Beauty, a blind gray seal rescued by the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation. Blinded by cataracts, she was patiently nurtured at Atlantis Marine World until she was able to navigate the exhibit on her own.

The Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Trainers work with our seals throughout the day. You can stop by anytime to watch the seals perform a variety of training behaviors – or simply play.
