Atlantis Explorer Programs/Labs

Atlantis Marine World offers several Atlantis Explorer programs in addition to the regular two-hour environmental tour.

Floating Classroom Cruise
Available for students in grades 2 – 12, the two-hour Floating Classroom Cruise includes hands-on activities such as trap pulls, interactions with horseshoe crabs and other local marine life, and an educational stroll along the shore of a remote region along Flanders Bay. Available in Spanish. Cruise limited to 72 participants.

Lab Cruise
Designed for students in grades 7 – 12, the Lab Cruise allows students to participate in a full-scale laboratory excursion, including the use of sampling equipment. Biological, chemical, and physical aspects of the Peconic Estuary are examined aboard the Atlantis Explorer, while the marsh is explored once the boat beaches. Cruise limited to 72 participants.

Extended Lab Cruise
This one-hour classroom presentation extends the regular lab cruise by further exploring the data and animals collected during the boat trip. Other activities include: graphing salinity in the Peconic River, identifying plankton under microscopes, beach sand sieves, and classifying animals and plants. There is a $2.00 additional charge for this program.

Scientist for a Day
Offered to students in grades 5 – 8, the Scientist for a Day program lets students collect scientific data using observation methods and measurement tools employed by real scientists. Participants record their findings in a logbook and receive a Certificate of Completion signed by Aquarium Co-Founder/Curator, Joseph Yaiullo, and Long Island’s internationally acclaimed Marine Conservationist and Author, Dr. Carl Safina, Co-Founder and President of the Blue Ocean Institute. Program limited to 72 participants.

Scouting Programs
Atlantis Marine World offers a variety of excursions designed to satisfy certain scouting badge requirements. These include:

  • "Water Everywhere” (Brownies);
  • "Naturalist” (Cub Scouts);
  • "Tying it All Up” (Cub Scouts);
  • "Nature” (Boy Scouts);
  • "Wildlife” (Juniors);
  • "From Shore to Sea” (Cadets and Seniors).

Excursions limited to 72 participants.

Taste Long Island Wine & Cheese Cruise
A Saturday evening tour, this cruise offers a peaceful, relaxing way to observe the beautiful scenery along the Peconic River and into Flanders Bay. Participants enjoy local wines from Raphael Vineyards as well as cheese and vegetable platters.

The Wine Cruise is available Saturday evenings in July and August and lasts from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The pre-cruise reception begins at 5:30pm. Cruise limited to 50 participants.
